9/24/72 is a DP and 9/28 often referenced- little press has been given to 9/26/72- the first night of the run. And it is the sleeper of the three and just might actually be the best.

Case in point- I have never heard a finer He's Gone- this show is unzipped at speeding arrow. Give it a spin

I've regarded 09-28-1972 as one of the best pre retirement He's Gones, I'll definitely have to check out 09-26...no links for it here on the archive?

I have to agree with you on the He's Gone. It's one of my fav performances---probably #2 if not #1---of the song before Oct '74. I've spoken very highly on this performance of TOO as well. I'd say the same for my rating of this song as well. The combo of these 2 songs @ this show seemed to be by the Grace of God.

I recently reviewed 9/26/72, and had this to say about the HE'S GONE:

Best...and i mean BEST "He's Gone" i've ever experienced--right here. It's self-contained, letter perfect, with an impromptu blues show by Jerry well after the "doo-wop" chorus of "...nuthin's gonna bring him back..." I think this version was so good they didn't even want it to segue into anything else.

I am also finding it impossible to pick which of the 3-night run from 9/26 to 9/28/72 at the Stanley is the best. They are all phenomenal.

The 9/28 features the Greatest "Greatest" I've ever heard. I've nicknamed it the "Greatest STEPHEN Ever Told" b/c Jerry clearly jams on the Stephen rift again and again during the heart of the jam.

All '72 Stanleys are amazing, and I agree w/LazarusLiam right on about the He's Gone from 9/26.

May I please use it too? I went there last nite, wanting to learn about file sharing and all -- how easy/hard is torrent? OK, guess it is time I learned, but I am stuck with a slow net conn. They said they were up to 100... number of folks -- no more room.

I'm taking you at your word and, sight unseen and music unheard, I am grabbing as we speak. I'll let you know if it strikes me in the same way tomorrow.
